How it works

Three straightforward steps

  1. 01

    Select a PDF

Choose the document you want to number. If you are combining several files, merge them first so the sequence follows the final document.

  2. 02

    Choose the sequence

Select all pages or a page range, set the starting number, and choose a position and font size. Leave a cover or appendix out when needed.

  3. 03

    Download and check

Create a numbered copy and inspect its first and last selected pages. Check that the numbers do not overlap an existing footer.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I skip the cover page?

Yes. Select a range beginning with the second physical page, such as 2-10, and choose 1 as the starting number. Only selected pages receive a number; the cover stays unchanged. Page selection always refers to physical positions in the input PDF.

How are nonconsecutive selections numbered?

The selected pages are numbered in document order, with one increment for each selected page. For example, physical pages 2, 4 and 6 with a starting number of 1 receive 1, 2 and 3. Unselected pages do not consume a number.

Does this replace existing printed page numbers?

No. This tool adds visible text and does not detect or erase an existing header or footer. Use an empty position on the page. Keep the original so you can start again if the result overlaps other content.

Will the PDF viewer page labels change?

The added numbers are visible on the document pages, including when printed. They do not change the navigation labels shown by a PDF viewer, and they do not reorder the document. Organize or extract your pages before numbering.

Is numbering performed privately?

Yes. Processing happens in your browser and creates a separate downloadable PDF. Document text and the settings you type are not sent to an ArchwayPDF processing server. Encrypted input should be unlocked with its password first.
